The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

The College of Education has pursued the goal of materializing the educational ideals stipulated in the Education Acts and nurturing prominent secondary educators who actively respond with passion to the globalized and diversified future.

More than 6,000 graduates from the College of Education have played a pivotal role in advancing the secondary education not just in Jeju but also in many other regions across Korea. Many of them have also made great contributions to the national and social developments while working in the academia, media, financial industries, research institutes, and enterprises.

Introduction

The Department of Sociology Education teaches the majors students all branches of the social science to cultivate the talented individuals capable of applying the sociological knowledge and expertise as teachers.

On the basis of the well-developed majors curriculum meeting the needs of contemporary society, we train the individuals equipping them with personal value and attitude traits conducive to today’s sociology education at secondary school levels. In addition to the theories and methodologies in the social science curriculum, our majors program encompasses a variety of subjects such as political science, economics, sociology, cultural anthropology, laws, philosophy, history, and geography through which the majors students earn the general sociology teaching certificates or choose their careers in diverse areas of employments.

Aims

First, cultivate the sociology teachers with democratic characters

Second, foster the intellectual capacity to understand and solve the societal issues rationally

Third, nurture the understanding of and the cooperative spirit for international society

Careers

1. Junior high school social science teachers: General social science, political science, economics, sociology, culture, laws, and curriculum related subjects

2. General administration or educational government service workers: Government service workers capable of executing administrative tasks in solving societal issues and problems and in meeting the needs of society in general and education in particular.

3. Public corporations, private sector and international organization staff: As the individual quality and rational ability in solving societal issues and problems is valuable to the corporate planning and strategic task works, the majors graduates find their careers with public and private industrial corporations. In addition, they are adaptable for working with international organizations in collaborative projects.

4. Media and broadcasting: Equipped with the ability and the broad knowledge of social science, the majors are employed in journalism, media, and broadcasting services

5. Graduate study and research: One can go on to further study at a graduate school of education and related fields for an eventual research and university teaching career.
