Introduction
As the first established academic unit of Jeju National University, the Department of English Education has been cultivating the talented English teachers positively responding to the global and internalization era. To nurture the superior English teachers, the department offers a variety of courses covering the specialized English subjects, the courses relevant to the understanding of western cultures, and English teaching methods and tools. The majors curriculum includes English linguistics, English literature, British and American Literature, English Education Theory, Practical English and related courses, complemented with in-depth classroom teaching, active discussion and research presentation. Also, native English-speaking instructors help improve the students' ability to speak fluently and write creatively. The departmental program is supplemented with dynamic English learning facilities such as British and American Culture Research Laboratory, Language Laboratory, audiovisual equipment, and specialty books and references. To help prepare the students' future careers, TOEIC, TOEFL, and TEPS sessions are regularly offered.
Aims
The Department of English Education aims at training the well-rounded and talented junior high school teachers with expertise in English language and English teaching skills including the fluent communication ability. To reach the goals, we offer stringent lessons in English speaking, hearing, reading and writing for the majors. Nurturing the able teachers and English education specialists is facilitated by in-depth studies of English linguistics, literature and English education theories and practical applications which are provided in our majors curriculum. We foster the English education specialists with an international insight in meeting the needs of cultural and multi-cultural societies in the global era.
