Aims and Scope
The Jeju National University Graduate School of Social Education is the first institution among South Korean universities to offer two Master of Social Education degree classes in Storytelling and Psychotherapy starting March 1, 2009. Thereafter Department of Natural and Cultural Heritage Education is established. The newly established program offers specialization in practical and concrete methods beyond theoretical or abstract approaches, which reflects contemporary changes in today's society.
▶ Department of Storytelling focuses on the studies and practices of storytelling at the graduate level aiming at creating visual narratives for films, animation and games through the combination of digital media technologies and creative writing methodologies. The Department trains professionals who are able to play leading roles in culture industries, specifically for the new age of media.
▶ Department of Psychotherapy emphasizes in educating psychotherapists who can treat those who are mentally handicapped or suffer from mental disorders, by using psychological therapies such as theatrical plays, music, fine arts, language, gardening, and cognitive behavior therapy. The Department faculty believe that through education one learns to respect high guality of lives and social welfare as the most important value in the society.
▶ Department of Natural and Cultural Heritage Education aims at cultivating the capacity to study and preserve and develop Jeju's precious natural and cultural heritage in the various perspectives. Also, It searches for enhancing the ability to explain their natural and cultural facts and interpret their meaning for worldwide visitors who are interested in Jeju natural and cultural heritage.
