University/Graduate

The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

The College of Ocean Sciences set a goal of studying, educating, and developing the theories and their applications in the ocean sciences, including the understanding of the marine environment, the use and development of marine resources, and the use and conservation of marine space. It has also worked to contribute to the advancement of the local, national, and international communities by nurturing talented individuals.

In particular, it has concentrated on research in the ocean sciences that Jeju has the potential for regional competitiveness. Since 1999, it has led state-funded projects, including the Brain Korea (BK) 21, the New University for Regional Innovation (NURI), the Education of Regional Water Industrial Specialists, and the POST-BK 21. Currently, students participating in the state-funded Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation (LINC) program receive lots of financial aids and subsidies through scholarships. It has also become the cradle for the ocean sciences both nominally and virtually by establishing the cluster of ‘Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, regional industries, universities, and research institutes’ under the provincial vision for the development of the maritime and fisheries industries.

Introduction

The Marine Life Science Majors program makes contributions to the food supply for people through efficient scientific management of the marine resources. To help achieve the goals, the majors curriculum offers courses in marine farming environment, piscicultural feeds, pisciculture biology, invertebrate animal pisciculture, fish genetics and breeding, embryology, reproductive biology, fish farming feed, marine ecology, cell molecular immunology, immunology and reproductive biology. Graduates of the majors curriculum earn the qualifying certificates of teaching license.

Aims

The marine life science majors program aims at fostering the scientific expertise in marine organisms through theoretical and practical studies of the comprehensive and efficient production and the utility of marine resources.
