The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

The College of Education has pursued the goal of materializing the educational ideals stipulated in the Education Acts and nurturing prominent secondary educators who actively respond with passion to the globalized and diversified future.

More than 6,000 graduates from the College of Education have played a pivotal role in advancing the secondary education not just in Jeju but also in many other regions across Korea. Many of them have also made great contributions to the national and social developments while working in the academia, media, financial industries, research institutes, and enterprises.

Introduction

The Jeju National University Department of Physical Education cultivates the “glocal” leaders in the physical education field through theoretical knowledge and practical skills curricula aimed at nurturing the teachers of both expertise and creativity. Our majors curriculum is designed to foster the superior sports professionals who are capable of contributing to the health related education, public and individual health and well-being, and improving the quality of leisure activities.

Aims

The Department of Physical Education strives for the well-rounded education of junior high school teachers who are also able to make contributions to the development of sports industry in the country as well as playing a leading role in globalizing the sports science.

- Cultivate the physical education teachers and sports professionals with well-rounded personal attributes and expertise

- Nurture the teachers and sports specialists who understand and practice their constructive roles and improvement on the field.

- Foster the sports professionals with well-rounded education, imaginative ability, and global perspectives.

Careers

Graduates of the physical education department earn 2nd degree certificates as secondary teachers. Upon passing an employment screening test, one can get the tenured appointment as a public junior high school teacher.

They also go on to further study at graduate schools here at home or abroad for eventual research, teaching or coaching careers (university professors, researchers, managers/coaches for elite professional sportsmen, sports industry specialists, life sports coaches, and leisure sports managers)

History

1972.3: Established the Department of Physical Education, College of Education

1989.3: Restructured as the Department of Physical Education, College of Natural Science

2017.3: Restructured as the Department of Physical Education, College of Education.
