The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

The College of Veterinary Medicine was separated as an independent institute from the College of the Applied Life Sciences in 2008. In September 2014, the new building with four floors and one basement level was completed in its current location with a gross area of 5,578㎡. It is equipped with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Training Ranch in Yongang, Veterinary Medical Research Institute, Laboratory Animal Center, and Jeju Wildlife Rescue Center.

The veterinary science is extended to a wide range of fields, including clinical veterinary medicine, livestock hygiene, pet diseases, wild animal diseases, water-bourne animal diseases, communicable diseases, and food and environmental hygiene. It is also a future-oriented academic sphere that are closely related to the cutting-edge bioindustries that involve studies on new substances, artificial organs, transformal animals, interspecies organ transplants, stem cells, and tumors.

Since the opening of the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 and along with pharmacy, biotechnology, new drugs development, and biomedicine fields, the veterinary medicine has been a rapidly developing, relatively new discipline. The college accredited for its educational curriculum offers high quality education in veterinary medicine to our students. Through their studies of animal treatment and public sanitation technology subjects, the students and faculty contribute to their expertises to the international exchange and collaboration efforts.

Aims

The Jeju National University College of Veterinary Medicine aims at cultivating the professionally well-trained veterinarians to meet the needs of the society in providing clinical service for animals and performing the sanitary testing on food prepared from animal sources.

Careers

The veterinarians trained under the College of Veterinary Medicine program may choose their careers in animal treatment and its veterinary medicine-associated industry as well as the biotechnology and its related cutting-edge industrial areas. They are wanted by the frontier industry fields such as the prevention and vaccination of zoonotic infectious diseases, environmental hygiene, food hygiene, conservation of environmental ecological system, safety and efficacy testing new drugs, cellular engineering, and embryologic engineering. Our graduates are actively recruited by the horse industry being specifically promoted in Jeju region.

  • 1952. 05.27 :Established Jeju Junior College (Korean Language, English, Law and Animal Husbandry Majors)
  • 1952. 08.08 : Opening ceremony held (classes open ~ 8. 9)
  • 1955. 04.06 : Authorized for 4-year provincial college/ the Department of Animal Husbandry restructured as the Department of Veterinary Medicine
  • 1962. 03.01 : Closed the Department of Veterinary Medicine
  • 1963. 12.16 : Restored the Department of Veterinary Medicine
  • 1964. 03.01 : Opened the Faculty of Agriculture Animal Hospital
  • 1973. 12.29 : Closed the Department of Veterinary Medicine
  • 1988. 10.29 : Opened the Department of Veterinary Medicine (admitted 40)
  • 1993. 09.04 : Established M.S. degree program, Department of Veterinary Medicine, Graduate College
  • 1995. 10.18 : Instituted Ph.D. degree program, Department of Veterinary Medicine, Graduate College
  • 1997. 11.05 : Changed affiliation from the College of Agriculture to the College of Natural Science, Department of Pre-Veterinary Medicine
  • 2008. 03.01 : Established the College of Veterinary Medicine
  • 2008. 04.07 : Signed MOU with Animal Products Risk Assessment Standards
  • 2008. 04.23 : Signed MOU with Korean Racing Association
