Introduction
- The Department of Ethics Education cultivates the talented teachers of morality and ethics subjects who are autonomous, creative individuals capable of taking theoretical and analytical approaches to solving ethical problems arising from our contemporary society.
Characteristics
- Comprehensive and scholastic pursuits of humanities and social sciences including philosophy, ethics, traditional thoughts and ethics, political science, sociology, pedagogy, and the North-South Korean relationship and unification represent the academic characteristics of the department and its program.
- The majors curriculum encompasses the Korean, occidental and western ethical standards as to individuals, family, society and country. It also helps explore the principles of democracy in life and the issues of the unification of the Koreas. The majors program also emphasizes developing effective theoretical and practical educational teaching methods.
Student activitiesinclude:
- Special study sessions in preparation for employment screening tests
- Western and citizenry ethics education, Korean traditional ethics education, social thoughts, and unification study clubs
- Academic festival ‘Chungryu Festival’ and study tours
- Publication 「淸流」 (Chungryu)
- Interactions with relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations (including the Ministry of Unification, Jeju Provincial Education Board Department of Ethics, and ethics education groups
Aims
-Foster the comprehensive and moral understanding of the societal issues
-Enhance the educational expertise for democratic citizenship
- Strengthen the teaching capability in morality and ethics education appropriate for multi-cultural society
- Train the executive faculty in the junior high school morality and ethics education
- Cultivate the individuals of moral character and expertise in morality and ethics education
Careers
-The majority of our graduates are morality and ethics teachers employed in regional and out-of-state provinces. Many of them also work at educational, non-governmental and public organizations.
- In addition to teaching at junior high school level, our graduates go on to further study at graduate schools here at home or aborad for eventual research and/or teaching faculty jobs. They also find a variety of other careers with newspapers, broadcasting stations, publishers, government service works, non-governmental organizations, and industrial sector’s consulting, counseling advertizing and public relations departments.
