The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

The College of Engineering has worked to achieve its goal of educating highly-skilled, talented students with strong teamwork capabilities, serious work ethic, and global awareness. These students will be able to make creative applications of the theories and professional skills of applied sciences and cutting-edge technologies that are the fundamentals of the nation’s industrial advancements.

It has also earned international accreditation of its educational programs and conducted research and development on future-oriented industries at its Innovation Center for Engineering Education, Research Institute of Advanced Technology, and Machine Shop. In particular, it has contributed greatly to the regional development by offering technological consultations to the local businesses by studying the development of local resources.

Introduction

Cultivation of the professional electrical engineers equipped with the fundamental knowledge and the practical ability to meet the needs of domestic and global electrical industries is the primary goal of the Electrical Engineering Majors program. The majors students not only learn the basic and theoretical subjects, but also participate in a career search program with the regional high school youths, academic exchange studies with both domestic and overseas institutions and many other department-held events involving students, instructors and faculty to promote the camaraderie among them and volunteer services by them.

Aims

The primary objective of the Electrical Engineering Majors is to nurture the talented electrical engineers equipped with both theoretical and practical expertises. The program emphasizes training the engineers not only having the ability to solve the problems in detail through positive approach and imaginative way of thinking, but also with an engineer’s perspective over all technology areas in general.

Careers

Graduates of the Electrical Engineering Majors may choose to work for electrical and related industries with certificates of the relevant qualifications and secondary language proficiency or advance to graduate studies for M.S. and Ph.D. degrees for eventual careers in research and teaching. Korea Electric Power Corporation, electric power generator companies, Korea Power Exchange Co. and others offering some of the most attractive positions are accessible to the graduates. Other likely careers are with new and sustainable energy industries, electrical tools manufacturers, electrical construction businesses, electrical design firms, electrical equipment and facilities companies, electrical facility management firms, environmental facilities businesses, and other large/middle/small size businesses. Because electrical engineering serves as the foundation of industrial enterprises, demands for the engineers are expected to grow steadily. Investment in and development of smart grid, new sustainable energy, electric vehicles, batteries and related items are on the rise, calling for the talented electrical engineers to meet the needs of the changing society. In particular, Jeju being the smart grid testing site, the associated activities such as the construction of testing facilities, management and research are likely to employ our trained electrical engineers.

History

1987: Established the Department of Electrical Engineering

1988: Established the College of Science and Engineering Department of

Electrical Engineering

1989: Restructured from the College of Science and Engineering to the College of Engineering

1997: Merged with the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Graduate College M.S. degree program offered

1999: Established Ph.D. degree program; affiliated with the Graduate College Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

2002: Study toured domestic and overseas industries

2004: Selected for basic training project for electrical engineering industry,

Selected for cutting-edge tourism information system training project

2006: Selected for BK21 Project

2007: Selected for Electric Power IT Training Project (for 4 years)

2008: Changed the admission unit

(Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Electrical Engineering Majors → Department of Electrical Engineering)

2011: Renamed to the Graduate School of Industry

(Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Electrical Engineering Majors → Graduate School of Industry Department of Electrical Engineering)

2016: Changed the admission unit
