The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

The College of Applied Life Sciences has developed new theories in the fields of biotechnology, natural science, and social science, and applied them to the agricultural sector to improve productivity. Its ultimate goal is to educate specialists who contribute to the welfare of humanity. In 2004, the Ministry of Education appointed the college as the operator of its Project Management Center Cultivating Subtropical Agriculture and Animal Biotechnology Project Manpowers to develop customized educational programs and opportunities for the students to increase their experiences specializing in many different fields. In 2005, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs designated the college as a training institute for its ‘Track’ System that offers on-site educational programs to encourage agricultural entrepreneurship. In February 2006, the college was evaluated as an ‘excellent’ educational institute specializing in agriculture (by the Korea Council for University Education). Furthermore, the college has educated talented individuals by running the Subtropical and Tropical Organism Gene Bank funded by the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation, the Regional Research Center (RRC) funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Export Promotion Research Organization for Korean Citrus funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs.

Introduction

As a field of social science, the Industrial Applied Economics is the applied economics dealing with the problems of food and environment and the efficient use and application of life resources on the basis of economic theory. We study from the matters on primary industry such as production, consumption, marketing, policy, trading and finance to the matters on managing the natural resources and environment on the economic development, in the economical view of rational use of resources.
To achieve this goal, we study the applied economics profoundly such as strategic economics, resource and environmental economics, industrial organization, marketing, food economics, food consumption economy and market analysis and land economics on the basis of primary theory of economics and distribution.
Also, we are nurturing capable men who will lead the efficient administration and rational use in the regional industry, by setting up the subjects relating to the regional economy such as the tangerine business, venture agricultural administration, green tourism, and bloom gardening administration, Also, facing the digital age, we educate students in how to use the programs for applied statistics and the way of analyzing the economy, such as the theories of statistics, econometrics and economical information process, thereby to equip students with the quality of highbrow suitable for the knowledge based society.
Therefore, we have improved the teaching method over the way of instructing only the theories of pure economics and administration, to realize the practical education like field work, inspection of industry and computer education.

Aims

We aim to nurture the experts on administration, planning, research, and instruction, who have the ability of 1) understanding the role of life and environment resources offering human food and resources in the national economy, 2) applying the various economic theories and analysis of economy on the basis of primary economic theory 3) finding and analyzing the problems occurring in the process of conserving and utilizing the environment and 4) making an alternative plan able to realize all of the above.

Careers

The social demand of graduates majoring in economics is increasing. Graduates go in to the field of public affairs, affiliated organization of governments, public institutions relating to agriculture and economics, agricultural association and other financial institutions, food industry, distribution industry, consulting companies and other enterprises. They also enter the graduate school to continue their study. In addition, they can gain the certificates for the expert of quality management, expert of distribution management and expert of managing the quality of agricultural products.
