University/Graduate

The cradle of student growth, a university that creates new values

The College of Applied Life Sciences has developed new theories in the fields of biotechnology, natural science, and social science, and applied them to the agricultural sector to improve productivity. Its ultimate goal is to educate specialists who contribute to the welfare of humanity. In 2004, the Ministry of Education appointed the college as the operator of its Project Management Center Cultivating Subtropical Agriculture and Animal Biotechnology Project Manpowers to develop customized educational programs and opportunities for the students to increase their experiences specializing in many different fields. In 2005, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs designated the college as a training institute for its ‘Track’ System that offers on-site educational programs to encourage agricultural entrepreneurship. In February 2006, the college was evaluated as an ‘excellent’ educational institute specializing in agriculture (by the Korea Council for University Education). Furthermore, the college has educated talented individuals by running the Subtropical and Tropical Organism Gene Bank funded by the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation, the Regional Research Center (RRC) funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Export Promotion Research Organization for Korean Citrus funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs.

Introduction

The objective is to research and study the foundation and application of life of bio resources. The department was established as a result of reorganization of the existing major of environmental biotechnology for the purpose of coping with the problems of life, food and environment in the 21st century.
We seek to explain and utilize the life function of animals, plants and microorganisms in the biotechnological way, to explain the function of food resources and the use, to study focusing on the safety of agricultural products and conservation of agricultural producing environment, and thereby to meet the demands of the current society. Also, for the purpose of coping with the problems of life, food, and environment in the 21st century, we explain the function of life in the biotechnological way and educate about the function of bio resources, the way of using them and their safety

Careers

The graduates can work in related industries, venture businesses, enterprises relating to food, medicine, brewing, cosmetics, research centers developing bio advanced materials, as well as improving the value of natural resources and processing. They can also enter graduate schools of biotechnology and Graduate School of Medicine and go abroad for study.
