The College of Ocean Sciences set a goal of studying, educating, and developing the theories and their applications in the ocean sciences, including the understanding of the marine environment, the use and development of marine resources, and the use and conservation of marine space. It has also worked to contribute to the advancement of the local, national, and international communities by nurturing talented individuals.

Since 1999, it has led state-funded projects, including the Brain Korea (BK) 21, the New University for Regional Innovation (NURI), the Education of Regional Water Industrial Specialists, and the POST-BK 21. Currently, students participating in the state-funded Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation (LINC) program receive lots of financial aids and subsidies through scholarships.
