Introduction
With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution era centered on AI and big data, the Department of Data Science was established to respond to the rapidly changing high-tech ICT environment with the importance of data science. Our department’s goals are to cultivate the software experts specializing in data analysis and data scientists with software capabilities.
This department, starting from the existing Department of Computational Statistics, operates a professional education to promote ICT capabilities that collect and processes various big data based on basic knowledge such as mathematics and statistics and expand to business models. Our faculty members contribute greatly to the local community and industry through industry-academic cooperation as well as education and research, involving in projects related to future industries such as smart grid, electric vehicle, augmented reality and big data statistics. The Department of Data Science with excellent faculty composed of ICT majors and statistics majors trains our students who are able to make important contributions to local industry and society in the 4th industrial revolution era.
Aims
The transition to the 4th industrial revolution era, where AI and big data are the core, requires education and professionals in the fields of information/computing and data science. Through the information/computing and data science curricula, the department aims to nurture the professionals with the ability and knowledge:
1. Scientists with broad knowledge in information/computing, statistics and big data.
2. Professionals with the creative ability to solve problems of the information age society through diverse approaches.
3. Well-rounded persons of maturity and integrity with understanding and communicative personal attributes.
Visons and Careers
Students educated through the departmental curricula will be able to work as an IT expert and a data scientist for data consulting firms, financial and general enterprises and government agencies. They can also go to graduate schools at home or abroad and work in various fields using computing and data science. In particular, due to the transition to the 4th industrial revolution era, the demand for big data analyst is increasing rapidly in government agencies and industries. According such a trend, they are able to find jobs in diverse career areas after graduation.
