As a leading educational institution on Jeju Island, the College of Economics & Commerce has contributed to the national and regional economic development by fostering talented individuals. The College of Economics & Commerce makes concerted efforts to nurture competitive human resources in the era of globalization through teaching a high-quality curriculum in well-equipped educational facilities while offering various scholarships and training programs to attract the best talent.

Introduction

Accounting records, classifies and summarizes organization’s financial, investment and business activities providing the necessary information on decision making. The accounting minimizes the uncertainty in decision making and contributes to the secure development of economic society. Consequently, the Department of Accounting aims at cultivating the talented accounting specialists capable of generating, analyzing, and understanding the information needed for decision making processes.

The departmental vision is『Cultivation of the accounting specialists for the information-driven global and regional societies』and its goals are achieved through ① high quality education and research, ② global minded education and research, ③ specialization of educational and research areas, and ④ advancement of educational and research environment.

Aims

As stated above, accounting contributes to the critical decision making processes for the secure development of the information-driven society. Consequently, graduates of the accounting program equipped with the well-rounded personal integrity, theoretical knowledge and practical expertise play important roles as accounting and societal leaders not only in the country and the world, but also for the regional community.

Careers

Graduates of the accounting majors program are employed as financial accountants, cost management accountants, taxation accountants, and computational accountants, etc. in central and regional governments and businesses. Specific careers are accessible to them. For example, ①certified accountant, tax accountant, ②stock market accountant, banker, insurance agent, ③public corporation accountant, school accountant, social welfare accountant, hospital accountant, government service accountant and other non-profit organization accountants, ④hotel (resort) accountant, golf course accountant and other tourism and leisure industry accountants, and ⑤airline accountant, construction accountant, broadcasting service accountant. They can go on to further study in graduate schools here at home or abroad for eventual professorial and/or research careers.

History

1980: Established the Department of Accounting

1988: Restructured as the College of Economics and Commerce

1990: Established master’s degree program, Graduate School of Mangement

1996: Established mater’s degree program, Graduate College

1997: Hosted the annual meeting of the Korean Society of Accounting

Selected as superior academic department based on departmental contributions to the development of the college at the 1997 university workshop & dinner

2002 : Instituted Ph.D. degree program, Department of Accounting, Graduate College

2005: Selected to participate in NURI project

2012: Selected to participated in LINC project
