Introduction
The Jeju National University College of Veterinary Medicine was established in 2008. As of today (2017), the 4-story+basement building, 5,600 square meters, houses the college. Its teaching, research and clinical service facilities include an animal hospital, experimental ranch, and laboratories equipped with the state-of-the-art instruments and equipment. A dedicated animal hospital building will be completed in 2017. The College of Veterinary Medicine consists of the Departments of Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. The former provides a 2-year curriculum to prepare the students in basic sciences and liberal education subjects for the veterinary medicine program.
Aims
The Department of Pre-Veterinary Medicine aims at cultivating the veterinary students with the sound background in basic sciences having positive and enthusiastic attitude in pursuing their careers in veterinary medicine. The department provides the pre-veterinary majors curriculum with the superior faculty and quality educational environment for nurturing the future-oriented individuals. To prepare the students to be veterinary medicine experts with the ability to master the specialty subjects covering a variety of animals and nurture them to be leaders in medical and public health and other relevant life science careers capable of theoretical and laboratory undertakings. The pre-veterinary program aims to educate the well-rounded, strong basic science-trained students.
Careers
Generally, the pre-vet majors advance to the Department of Veterinary Medicine to be professional veterinarians.
