Introduction
The Department of German offers two majors curricula 「German Language」 and 「German Literature」. The 「German Language」 curriculum emphasizes fostering of the German expertise with proficiency in spoken German, understanding of German society, history, politics, education and economics. Curriculum for the 「German Literature」 study is designed to cultivate scholars in the area of German literature and linguistics. The department makes an effort to train students with both personal integrity and intellectual capacity the society needs in diverse professions through multi- and inter-disciplinary studies. For example, proficiencies in English and computer applications coupled with skills in German would offer the wider career opportunities for the graduates of the department.
Aims
The Department of German aims at fostering grammatical and text analysis capabilities for the better understanding of German culture as well as the mutual communication skills in analyzing the primary German literature and its resultant secondary references exploring the German literary and semiotic phenomena, which leads to the better understanding of both German and European cultures enabling the students to creatively accommodate the German culture in the world of diverse culture.
Careers
After graduation from the Department of German program one may go on to further study in graduate schools here at home or abroad. He/she may work for a German corporation or its domestic branch, journalism and media profession, trade company, broadcast station, airlines, governmental agency, or interpretation and translation businesses, etc. One can also get teaching licenses while still in the departmental course program. There are opportunities for longer term German internships overseas.
