Jeju National University established the College of Arts & Design in 2012 to concentrate on educating specialized talents that are not only skilled in the artistic expression, creation, and theories, but also possess a strong personal style and knowledge.

The Faculty of Music educates the functional aspect of music performances and provides stability through music. It also runs courses for full-time teachers, contributes to the artistic activities in the local communities, and further matures and develops the creativity and artistic instincts at international level. The ambition of the Faculty of Music is to serve a pivotal role in the musical revitalization and emotional advancement of the entire nation.

The Faculty of Fine Arts offers majors in Korean Painting, Painting, and Sculpture. It offers educational courses on the overall theories of arts and their applications to foster intellectual and creative artists and art educators. The basic training courses of the Faculty of Fine Arts help improve the individual creativity and expressiveness and learn about the interrelations in the studies of sculpture to improve the artistic skills, and eventually promote the experimental attitudes, unique expressions, and comprehensive artistic understanding. The Faculty of Fine Arts also offers holistic education that incorporates the pursuit of truth and social demand through the formative arts. The Major of Multimedia Design of the Faculty of Industrial Design offers courses on the design analysis, design planning, design concepts, and design realization to activate ‘Capstone’ designs, run regional design projects, participate in the domestic and international contests, and offer on-site training for more job opportunities in the specialized fields, including public, environmental, visual, product, UX, 3D, and CG designs. The wide array of educational methods and the multidisciplinary courses of the Major of Multimedia Design nurture ‘creative designers’ suitable for the contemporary era. The Major of Culture & Formative Design offers educational courses on fiber design, metal design, ceramic design, and product design, as well as the converged courses on the afore-mentioned techniques, for the development of the cultural and tourism industries. Students majoring in Culture & Formative Design can have uniquely tailored experiences using a variety of materials and will better understand the culture and industries.

Introduction

▷ 2004: Reorganized the Department of Industrial Design to the Faculty of Industrial Design (Major of Culture and Molding Design, Major of Multimedia Design)
CT (Cultural Technology) came up as one of the nation’s 21st century future strategic industries. The Cultural Arts and Crafts Majors program aims at training personnel sought by innovative, competitive and high value-added manufacturing industries recognizing the importance of thematic tourism and cultural businesses.
To achieve the purpose, culture related education like studying culture associated to cultural tourism industry, management of cultural products and marketing are studied. Moreover, to generate competitive design products, digital media education like products design and computer software(2D, 3D), information management education, cultural imaged products, developing curtural formative design are performed. In addition, practical design education for creating high value products and planning event promotion and festival for making cultural products are researched. The ultimate purpose of our faculty of industrial design is in training the well informed elite on culture, tourism and design related industry with the ability fr-om planning to manufacturing. Furthermore, with the experience of achieving two prizes out of the big three international contest, students will be educated to participate active in various compatitions and exhibitions.

Careers

With a variety of authorized certifications related to the majors, career opportunities continue to expand for the graduates of this majors to work in cultural, touristic and design industries complementary to the knowledge/information and tourism businesses environmentally suited for the Jeju region’s further advancement and employment potentials. Specific areas available to the majors include product design laboratories and planning offices for corporations, cultural goods, tourism design and development, environmental facilities design depicting Jeju as the tourist destination, department store and shopping mall displays. Teaching at secondary schools represents another important career for the graduates of the majors program.

  • 1999: Enrollment of 60, 20 for each Major (Visual Design, Engineering Design, and Industrial Arts and Crafts)
  • 2002: Department of Industrial Design reorganized its curriculum and enrolled separately
  • (Majors in Multimedia Design ~30, Cultural Arts and Crafts Design ~ 30)
  • 2004: Enrollment unit name change and separate majors enrollments
