JNU-Korea Maritime Academy, Joint Symposium

JNU held a regular symposium on the theme of ‘Symposium on Climate Crisis Ocean Response’ jointly with the Korea Maritime and Ocean Academy (Chairperson Lee Ki-taek Professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology) at College of Engineering, JNU on the 28th of April.
Climate and marine experts attended the symposium and Song Sang-keun, Vice Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and Kim Eel-hwan, president of JNU, delivered congratulatory remarks.
In his congratulatory address, Vice Minister Song said, “Ocean science will be the key to solving the global climate crisis.” adding, “I hope that the Korean oceanographic community will present an agenda for solving the climate crisis to the international community and become a strong support for science and technology diplomacy.”
At this symposium, Professor Choi Gwang-sik, the Department of Marine Life Sciences at JNU, and a member of the Korea Maritime Academy, gave a presentation on changes in the Jeju coastal ecosystem due to rising water temperatures. And Prof. Moon Il-ju, Maritime and Industrial Police Department, JNU presented on climate change and typhoons caused by global warming. In addition, Professor Kim Jong-seong of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Seoul National University made a presentation on the importance of tidal flats in terms of global carbon reduction.
The Korea Maritime Academy currently consists of 25 scholars from universities and national research institutes.
