-JNU’s Global research capabilities in energy, semiconductors, and AI are expected to be strengthened.
JNU(President Kim Eel-hwan) has been selected to host a specialized R&D track within the Graduate School of Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program for the 2026-2028 academic year.
This prestigious program is administered by the National Institute of International Education under the Ministry of Education. JNU notably secured 40 scholarships, the highest number among all participating universities nationwide.
With this selection, JNU will further solidify its foundation as a crucial hub for nurturing global talent in advanced research fields, including energy, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence (AI) convergence.
The GKS R&D specialized track is a government-sponsored scholarship program designed to cultivate master's and doctoral-level foreign research talent in high-tech fields. It provides full scholarships funded by the Ministry of Education.
A total of 25 universities nationwide were chosen for this initiative, which aims to support 403 scholarship recipients. Selected students will receive comprehensive benefits for the entire duration of their degree programs, including tuition fees, round-trip airfare, monthly living expenses, and medical insurance, plus one year of Korean language training.
For this specialized track at JNU, three engineering departments were selected: Computer Engineering (10 students), Electronics Engineering (10 students), and Mechatronics Engineering (20 students). These selected students will complete an intensive one-year Korean language course at JNU before commencing their master's and doctoral studies in their respective graduate programs.
Dean Kim Sang-jae (JNU College of Engineering) said, "JNU's allocation of the largest number of GKS R&D specialized track students nationwide is a testament to the recognized research capabilities and internationalization efforts of the JNU College of Engineering," and adding. "JNU is committed to providing comprehensive educational and research support to ensure that these excellent foreign research talents can achieve world-class results in the energy, semiconductor, and AI convergence and interdisciplinary fields."
