-Communicating with the world through writing that goes beyond limits
Kwak Hyeon-ju, a senior in the Department of Korean Language Education at JNU College of Education, has been named a winner of the "2025 Korea Talent Award," hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Scholarship Foundation.
The "Korea Talent Award" recognizes and celebrates exceptional young talents who pioneer their own paths, achieve outstanding accomplishments, and demonstrate consideration for others and a strong sense of community. Kwak Hyeon-ju received KRW 2 million, along with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award.
Kwak received this honor after being recommended by the JNU Disabled Student Support Center (Director Hyun Mi-yeol). She has pioneered a way to fully communicate with the world through writing, transforming her disability into a catalyst for growth.
As a wheelchair user, she attributed her ability to concentrate on her studies to the personalized travel and academic support provided by the JNU Disabled Student Support Center. With the systematic support of JNU, she published her novel, "Do It Coffee, I Brew My Heart," and successfully completed her practical teaching semester, demonstrating her unique capabilities as an aspiring educator.
In her acceptance speech, Kwak expressed profound gratitude to the center, saying, "The disabled student support center has been a 'Daddy-Long-Legs' figure through every challenge I faced during my college life. Drawing confidence from my growth alongside the center, I am committed to becoming a teacher who never gives up on any student under my care."
