Jeju National University’s Software Convergence Education Institute launched the 1st Software Pioneer, a scholarship program for undergraduate students enrolled in the university’s software-related departments.

During the inaugural ceremony held on Saturday (March 24), the institute also briefed the participants of the Software Pioneer program on the Test of Practical Competency in ICT (TOPCIT), a widely accepted private certificate in South Korea.

The Software Pioneer program was established to grant scholarships to those who complete the institute’s spring-term education course by participating in the eight signature events designated by the institute. For the first round of the program, the institute accepted 76 participants as the “software pioneers”.

In 2018, the nation’s Ministry of Science and ICT select the Software Convergence and Education Institute as an implementer of its support project for universities with software-centered policies. The institute, under the direct auspices of the university’s president, has since worked to popularize the values of software on Jeju Island, while running educational courses that help strengthen the capacity of future software engineers.

Song Wang-cheol, the director of the institute, attended the inaugural ceremony of the Software Pioneer program and stated: “Last year, we avoided offline education courses to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We will offer satisfactory education programs for the next-generation software leaders this year, while thoroughly abiding by the nation’s quarantine rules.”
