Cooperation agreement made between institutes supporting local specialties industries

Jeju National University’s Support Center for Natural Dyeing Businesses signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration with the Jeju Chamber of Commerce and Industry-led Regional Intellectual Property Center (RIPC) and the Jeju Tourism Industry Promotion Agency (JTIPA).

The trilateral agreement was signed at Jeju National University to boost the development of Jeju-based textile businesses using natural dyes and create jobs through local economic growth.

Under the MOU, the institutes agreed to cooperate for the revitalization of Jeju’s natural dyeing industry, the strengthening of business competitiveness, the provision of information on the patents, designs, trademarks, and other intellectual properties held by local natural dyeing firms.

RIPC helps Jeju-based small and medium enterprises in creating appealing intellectual properties. To protect their rights, the RIPC provides consulting services on how to secure a competitive advantage with intellectual properties.

JTIPA, a partner of the JNU Support Center for Natural Dyeing Businesses, works with the Jeju Natural Dyeing Association to link Jeju’s natural dyeing industry with its tourism businesses. Key tasks include the testing and evaluation of textiles dyed with natural dyes and the provision of consulting services to local natural dyeing firms on obtaining a certified labelling and marketing their products.
