Jo Ahn-joon, president of Design and Food Culture, recently visited Jeju National University to endow a scholarship to two JNU students.

The winners of the scholarship worth 6,000,000 won in total include a graduate student in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition and an undergraduate student in the Department of Biomaterials.

Jo’s donation was made through the Hakso Scholarship Fund, which was named after Hwang Hakso, Jo’s father-in-law who had worked to regain the independence of Korea under the Japanese colonial rule.

During the scholarship endowment ceremony, Jo expected that the fund will help the promising students overcome adversity and grow to lead the nation’s food industry. The food culture expert also pledged to continue to give full support to the students as their life-long mentor.

Jo founded Design and Food Culture on Dec. 30, 2009, for the purposes of developing unique designs exploring the intersection of food and culture and globalizing the designs featuring the Korean culinary culture.

The food culture and design expert established the Hakso Scholarship Fund in 2014, and has since made scholarship donations worth 43,000,000 won to JNU students with food-related majors.
