Jeju governor Won Heeryong presented a plaque of appreciation to Lee Yong-ho, a second-year Jeju National University student in the Department of Korean Language Education, the Jeju government announced Friday (April 9).

Previously on Tuesday, a large cargo truck collided with two public buses and a smaller truck at 5:59 p.m. at a traffic intersection near Jeju National University. Lee witnessed the accident while riding his motorcycle home from the school, and immediately ran to rescue the bus passengers.

Even after the 119 rescue squad arrived, the23-year-old student stayed to collect items scattered on the site to return them to their owners, while assisting the police in identifying the passengers.

During the award ceremony, Lee gave credit to other helping hands for preventing any further loss of life, particularly those rescue squad members who arrived earlier than expected and took swift actions.

Governor Won said he would like to express to Lee his most sincere gratitude on behalf of Jeju residents for trying to save people without hesitation so bravely and devotedly after the tragic collision.
