Jeju National University’s Center for Human Rights said Friday (April 9) that the university authorities and local police officers launched a thorough inspection team to keep the school safe from spy camera crimes.

On April 5, the Jeju Dongbu Police Station, Jeju National University Student Welfare Division, and the university’s Student Union began checking whether illegal cameras are installed in a female restroom or changing room of the University Headquarters, Student Union Hall, orother facilities that students may access.

In the previous event held on April 2, the JNU Center for Human Rights educated the faculty and students on the countermeasures against digital sex crimes and informed them of how to use hidden camera lens detectors.

The joint inspection by the university and the local law enforcement agency will continue throughout April 16.

Concerning a recent spike in digital sex crime in Korea, the Center for Human Rights has conducted the joint inspection every year since its creation in 2017.

According to Kim Eun Ju, the director of the center, more inspections will be organized on an unscheduled basis to keep the school facilities safe for students at all times.
