Training for global citizenship educators from multicultural families held

Jeju National University International Development Cooperation Center (JIDCC) held a training course for global citizenship educators from multicultural families on April 29 and 30.
JIDCC co-organized the course with the Seogwipo Multicultural Family Support Center to call for recognition of global citizenship in local multicultural families and build capacity of women who had migrated to Korea for marriage.
The education course introduced the future educators to the diversity and necessity of global citizenship education and the notion of global citizenship. During the program, the participants also learned about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and children’s rights. The lectures were followed by a trial operation of the education module on different topics such as multicultural ingenuity and personality education.
According to the JIDCC, a total of 13 women migrants completed the course, which will qualify the educators to be dispatched to elementary, middle, and high schools on Jeju Island to teach students about global citizenship.
JIDCC was established in 2015 as Jeju National University’s on-campus agency for official development assistance (ODA) under an agreement concluded between the university, Korea International Cooperation Agency, and Jeju province.
The center carries out diverse projects, including teaching and publicizing ODA, participating in ODA-oriented procurement, providing consultation, evaluation, and monitoring services on Jeju-based ODA projects, and recruiting international aid workers.
