Jeju Fire Department of Jeju Fire and Safety Headquarters presented a plaque of merit to a second-year Jeju National University student who helped with the rescue operation after the recent car collision near Jeju National University, the fire department announced Thursday (April 29).

The 23-year-old student named Lee Yong-ho (Department of Korean Language Education) witnessed a large cargo truck collide with two public buses and a smaller truck at 5:59 p.m. on April 6 at a traffic intersection near his university. Lee immediately ran to help the bus passengers move to a safer place until the fire department-led rescue squad arrived. He also played an important role in the rescue operation by letting the rescue squad members identify the location of the injured and collecting items scattered on the site to return them to their owners

Kim Yeong-ho, head of the Jeju Fire Department, said he would like to express his sincere gratitude to Lee for assisting with the rescue operation without hesitation after the tragic collision. The young man’s courageous and altruistic act will be a good model for others, he added.
