Jeju National University’s professor Oh Jae Hwan was named the winner of the teachers’ award presented by Jeju Federation of Teachers’ Association (JFTA).

 

According to the university, the professor of elementary school art education received the Tamna Teachers’ Prize, marking the 40th Teachers’ Day on May 15.

 

JFTA has given the prize since 2003 to those teachers who contributed to the local education sphere and set an example for JFTA members.

 

Prof. Oh was selected as the winner for the prize’s category of research performances at Jeju National University. The awarding committee recognized his broad efforts to improve teaching and learning methods to boost emotional development and creativity.

 

The art educator also served as the dean of Jeju National University’s Graduate School of Social Studies Education, contributing to lifelong education fulfilling diverse needs of the future.

 

Additionally, the art specialist has organized different international art events to introduce the authenticity of the Korean traditional culture. In honor of his contributions, the Association for International Exchange of Korean Art and the Chinese and the Vietnamese governments presented a citation to him several times.

 

Most recently, Prof. Oh’s research has been focused on elementary school art education, while developmentally connecting traditional Korean paintings with modernity.
