Digitalized product tag and video content combined, and DIY kit praised as innovative ideas

 

Exhibition and showing of trial products developed by Jeju Natural Dye Industry Support Business Group were launched from May 17 to 21 at Jeju National University, Department of Fashion and Textiles, in Room NS109 of the department building. The event was supported for the regional cooperation industry fostering (non-R&D) sponsored by the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups and Jeju Special Self-governing Province.

 

Evaluation, feedback exchange, and survey were conducted in the showing. The event was participated by the promoting committee, Jeju Natural Dye Association, and beneficiaries, as well NEXTEASY, a participating company, Jeju Tourism Culture Industry Promotion Agency, and the public including a company named Otbang.

 

There were 50 distinctive items shown, including products dyed with persimmon tannin, indigo-dyed clothes, bags, masks with replaceable filters, scarves, clothing for companion dogs, and DIY kits (consumers would buy these partially built products to complete in the end).

 

The products received positive remarks in that they had high level of completion, were various, aesthetically satisfying, and innovatively different through the introduction of visual content-embedded QR codes and DIY kits.

 

Especially the masks, clothes, and clothing for companion dogs contained 51 less hazardous materials that are below the standard as designated by Korea Apparel Testing Research Institute. The products were attached with digital quality tags that are The QR codes are embedded with product information indicating antibiotic capability, ultra-violet block, and deodorization characteristic.

 

The participants were praised in that they were “able to easily understand the excellent quality of natural dye products made in Jeju at the point of sale.”

 

The DIY kits include fabric pieces that are left over from the production process. The embroidery DIY kit serves as a digital tourism product embedded with a QR code linked to a video introducing the culture and history of the stone pagoda, traditional house, pottery, and the tangerine of Jeju. This commercial product drew attention as it provides both educational and entertainment value by telling stories about the culture and history of Jeju.

 

Hong, Hee-sook, head of Natural Dye Industry Support Business Group mentioned that “the digital quality tag-attached products can be seen as an excellent case to improve reliability of product among consumers, and as a region’s cultural product to tell the traditional culture, history and natural monuments of Jeju.”

 

She also mentioned that the Group will “do best to promote marketing and widen distribution chains with the cooperation of institutes in and out of Jeju Province so that these trial products introduced can yield increased profits through commercialization.”
