Research Institute for Basic Science and Jeju Groundwater Research Center held a Seminar

Research Institute for Basic Science of Jeju National University (Director Kim, Myeong-sook) announced on May 29 that it held its second regular seminar of year 2021 in liaison with provincial research center on May 27 at the College of Natural Science, 1st Building.

The Institute’s regular seminar is for research exchange between itself and research centers in Jeju Province for the resolution of various issues in the region. On May 27, as the second guest of the year, ‘Jeju Groundwater Research Center’ was invited.

The seminar was held under the theme of ‘Sustainable Jeju, and Plans for the Preservation of Jeju’s Groundwater,’ which is an ongoing task of the Center. Presentations and Q&A sessions took place.

Also, a study by Professor Jeong, Man-young, ‘Purification of nitrous contaminants in groundwater through the analysis of substrate affinity of nitrifying microorganism’ was presented.

Jeju Groundwater Research Center was opened in October 2020 for fostering infrastructure for resolving integrated water-related issues in Jeju. The center also aims to enhance expertise on the issues. In December 2020, the Center concluded a business agreement with the Research Institute for Basic Science to conduct joint basic science studies to further the sustainability of Jeju’s groundwater resources and to cooperate on personnel exchange to rear and support human resources contributing to the natural environment of Jeju.

This regular seminar was a place where studies in various institutes regarding water resources in Jeju were shared. It also served as a venue to discuss joint studies of basic science that would preserve the cleanness of Jeju’s groundwater.

Research Institute of Basic Science’s next seminar of the year will be held on July 22, 2021, with Jeju’s ‘Nanji Institute of Animal Science’ as next guest.
