‘개교 69주년 제주대’…글로벌 대학 성장 다짐
Global-level growth pledged in commemoration of 69th anniversary of JNU founding

Jeju National University commemorated the 69th anniversary of its opening in Aara Muse Hall earlier today (May 27).

The ceremony was held in a smaller size than the previous year while following the state-issued social distancing guidelines so as to prevent the COVID-19 spread. Instead, the entire event was broadcast live on YouTube.

In his commemorative speech, President Song Seok-eon point out the recent decrease in the school-aged population and the ongoing 4th Industrial Revolution. The president affirmed that the changing environment calls Jeju National University to secure a due competitiveness that is essential in surmounting the latest risks and hardships.

The JNU head then urged the faculty members to collect their insights and capabilities to turn the risk into an opportunity to move forward to a better future.

Song also stressed that concerted efforts should be made for the university’s global-level growth and competition, especially mentioning winning international accreditations in different areas of social responsibility required for tertiary educational institutions.

Finally, JNU sould fulfill its mission of contributing to the nation and the local community by upgrading the quality of education and improving the research performances, while strengthening industry-university-academy cooperation, he said.

During the ceremony, the university awarded plagues of merit to those faculty members who served 20 or 30 years, while recognizing those with the best records in lecture evaluation and academy-industry cooperation.
