JNU & Chungbuk National University, rankings rise among Korea NU 10
In the ‘2025 World University Evaluation,’ Jeju National University (JNU) (President Kim Eel-hwan) ranked between 1001 and 1200, a rise of 200-300 places compared to the previous year, according to Times Higher Education (THE), a global university evaluation agency based in the UK. Among the top 10 national universities in Korea, only two—Jeju National University and Chungbuk National University—have seen improvements in their rankings.
THE evaluates universities annually, focusing on research achievements and educational conditions. The assessment is based on various factors, including presentations, citations, and faculty surveys. The evaluation divides universities into five categories: educational conditions (29.5 percent), research environment (29 percent), research quality (30 percent), industry-academia cooperation (4 percent), and internationalization (7.5 percent), with a total of 18 detailed indicators. A total of 2,092 universities from 115 countries participated in the 2025 evaluation
In this evaluation, JNU improved its scores across all assessment categories. Notably, the score for educational conditions increased significantly from 27.4 points last year to 32.5 points this year. Additionally, the score for industry-academia cooperation rose from 38.2 to 40.8 points, research quality improved from 35.0 to 36.9 points, research environment increased from 19.2 to 20.8 points, and internationalization improved from 31.2 to 32.5 points. This increase in scores indicates that JNU's consistent efforts to enhance its education and research capabilities are yielding positive results.
Regarding these achievements, JNU President Kim Il-hwan stated, "JNU will work to establish various global partnerships and enhance its research and education capabilities to further strengthen its international status in the future."
