-New Chapter in JNU ESG Management, Full-scale Operation after Opening Ceremony
A Cafe RA, a standard workplace for individuals with disabilities, has opened at JNU, attracting considerable attention. JNU is actively engaged in ESG management, taking the lead in creating a society without discrimination and inequality.
The cafe began full operations on October 15, situated on the first floor of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Center. A Cafe RA was initiated in June 2021 through an agreement between JNU and the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled. The project was developed in May 2022 with the goal of supporting the independence of disabled individuals and promoting sharing and coexistence.
To create a comfortable and safe working environment for disabled workers, JNU and the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled invested a total of KRW 200 million to open the cafe. Currently, it is operated by a team that includes one manager and 11 disabled partner staff.
At the opening ceremony, JNU President Kim Eel-hwan and a partner with disabilities held a barista demonstration together to illustrate the importance of cooperation and respect.
President Kim stated, "A Cafe RA, part of JNU's industry-academic cooperation group, was opened with the bold goal of becoming an exemplary case where the public and private sectors cooperate to contribute to society in alignment with the ESG management policy of the national university." He added, "We hope this cafe will become a space for growth where we can foster harmony together, rather than discrimination between disabled and non-disabled individuals.“
JNU plans to promote the employment of disabled individuals and further strengthen ties with the local community through the opening of A Cafe RA.
