Jeju coast cleaned by institutional volunteers of Jeju National University

Jeju National University International Development and Cooperation Center (JIDCC) and the university’s Global Teacher’s University (GTU) Project Team worked with Jeju Council for Ocean Environment Conservation to clean up the coast near the 2nd pier of the Jeju Harbor on May 29.
The coastal cleaning event was organized to raise public awareness of the importance of environmental conservation and the severity of ocean waste.
Over 70 people participated in the campaign, including members of the Jeju Council for Ocean Environment Conservation, students of Jeju National University, and JIDCC and GTU Project Team staff. During the event, the volunteers collected used ropes, nets, and buoys that had been stuck between tetrapod structures or rock crevices.
Lee Kyung sang, director of JIDCC, said the event provided students an opportunity to learn about environmental conservation, one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Kwon Sang Cheol, head of the GTU Project Team, also stated that global education classes are easier to understand after environmental conservation activities. The campaign will be a good opportunity for students to revisit the meaning of the environment, he added.
