Development direction for the energy industry in Jeju to be discussed

The 1st Jeju New Energy Industry Colloquium is ongoing
BK(Brain Korea) 21’s the Education Research Group to foster innovative talents for the Fourth-Stage Advancement of New Energy Industry in Jeju(led by Kim Sang-jae) is holding colloquium under the theme of “Development plan of New Energy Industry” at Jeju National University from June 10 to 11.
The colloquium is organized for the establishment of intensive education and network for industry, university, and institute to foster innovative talents based on the vitalization of the new energy industry in Jeju.
On June 10, the first day of the colloquium, Kim Beom-suk, the professor of JNU, presented a topic about “Green New Deal and Carbon-Neutral Policy,” and Hwang Woo-hyun, the CEO of Jeju Energy Corporation, gave a keynote speech under the theme of “Role of Wind Power Generation Responding to Global Climate Crisis and Strategies to overcome Quadilemma.”
Next, Kim Ho-sung, the head of Jeju Office of Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, gave a lecture about “Abnormal Reaction and Breakdown Diagnosis of Electric Vehicle’s Battery”, and Kang Byung-chan, the chief of Jeju Energy Corporation’s Regional Energy Research Center, spoke, “Spreading Renewable Energy in Jeju.” And Kang Bo-min, the head of SK D&D gave a speech about “the Development of Onshore Wind Farm.”
On June 11, participants of the colloquium will have a chance to discuss how to promote industry-university-institute collaboration for the development of new energy industry in Jeju, visiting SK D&D onshore wind farm located at Gasi-ri, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo city. With this, Prof. Kim Beom-suk and Ko Jung-woo, the deputy head of Jeju Hallim Onshore Wind Power Co., will present on the theme of “Energy Transition: Onshore Wind Power Industry” and the development of onshore wind farm, respectively.
“With this colloquium as a momentum, I expect that the university will serve as a key cluster for industry-academic cooperation in the new energy industry, providing interdisciplinary research and contributing to the creation of a virtuous cycle where innovative companies participate in and nurture new talents,” said Kim Sang-jae said.
On the other hand, BK 21’s the Education Research Group to foster innovative talents for the Fourth-Stage Advancement of New Energy Industry in Jeju has conducted research since 2020. And it will keep progressing by 2017. The research involves 26 full-time professors and young researchers, as well as 53 graduate students related to the new energy industry at Jeju National University.
