Webinar held with invited international expert on growing saffron crocuses indoors

Jeju National University’s Subtropical Horticulture Research Institute held a webinar on growing saffron crocuses indoors, the university announced early on Tuesday (June 29).
The webinar invited Dr. Ardalan Ghilavizadeh, a renowned agronomist in Tehran, Iran, to speak about what conditions are needed for saffron crocuses cultivation indoors.
Saffron is known to be the world’s most expensive spice, which comes from dried pistils of saffron crocuses. One saffron crocus flower has only three pistils, and 1g of saffron needs 500 dried pistils.
JNU Subtropical Horticulture Research Institute explained the webinar reflects the growing interest in the farming of high value-added crops amid the ongoing subtropical transformation of Jeju Island and the Korean Peninsula.
