Jeju National University LINC+ held a conference to share the outcomes of the Living Lab Capstone Designs for Local Innovation, the university announced on Monday (June 28).

On June 23 and 24, the university’s industry-academy cooperation promotion agency invited the participants of its Living Lab Capstone Designs for Local Innovation program to give presentations on their outcomes.

The program was developed to encourage students to form capstone design teams to discover new values of local community and work with local authorities or community members to solve problems.

JNU LINC+ said the support and partner agencies included Jeju Tourism Organization (JTO), Orion Foundation (OF), Gujwa Village Tourism Cooperative, and Seogwipo Wolpyeong Village Urban Regeneration Field Support Center. The participants formed project leagues, running a total of 30 teams: 15 for the OF Local Discovery Support Project; 8 for the Wellness Tourism Project; and 7 for the Village Vitality Project.

In the league of the OF Local Discovery Support Project, Yes Five-Day was announced as the winner of the OF CEO Prize with the prize money of 2.5 million won. The Wellness Tourism Project league chose Co-well as the winner of the JTO CEO Prize with the prize money worth 500,000 won in local currency. BO$$-L won the Village Vitality Project league and signed a capstone auction with the Gujwa Village Tourism Cooperative. Capstone auction refers to a collaboration and investment program where a company commercializes a business item proposed by students.

Kang Chul-ung, head of JNU-LINC+, said his institute introduced the project league system for the first time this year to work more closely with local businesses on the ground. JNU-LINC+ will provide full support to help the innovative ideas suggested by JNU students be realized in the local community, he promised.
