Jeju National University’s Software Leading University Project Agency announced the winners of the 2nd Ara Software Competition on Monday (June 26).

The 2nd Ara Software Competition was organized to raise public awareness of software coding and the values of software in the era of the “4th industrial revolution”.

The competition started on May 3 for undergraduate students from coding-related courses and high school students who are members of software groups.

The category of undergraduates accepted applications from a total of 64 teams of 124 students in 35 departments, while high school category had 16 student applicants in eight teams from seven schools. Of them, 33 college teams and six high school teams advanced to the final round.

According to the announcement, the JNU presidential first prize for the college contenders’ category was given to Hi-story, a team of students in the JNU Department of History. Hi-story used the Python language for history education by creating hologram images of historical figures that were learned through artificial intelligence.

In the category of high school contenders, (^오^), a single-member team, was awarded the first prize presented by the Superintendent of Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education. The winner, named Kim Jin-woo, developed a program to warn the user about a distributed denial of service attack using the Python language.

Lee Jae-seung, a member of the Board of Directors of Kakao, the nation’s largest mobile messenger operator, participated in the panel of judges. Lee said the competition was impressive in that the contenders worked to solve different phenomena that take place in daily lives by utilizing their own specialized techniques. With a better understanding of UI and UX to extend the ideas to real services, they will contribute to upgrade the experiences and comprehension of digital transformation in society, he added.

More details about the winners are announced on the website of Jeju National University’s Software Convergence Education Institute (https://sw.jejunu.ac.kr).
