Special lecture on algorithms and ‘hackerthon’ event held

Jeju National University’s Software Convergence Education Institute (JNU-SCEI) held the 2021 Intensive Algorithm Course and Hackerthon, the university announced on Friday (June 25).
The event started on June 22 and continued until June 24, inviting 62 members of the Software Pioneers, the JNU-SCEI’s supporters’ group to the two-day intensive course on algorithms and the hackerthon event on the final day.
JNU-SCEI organized the special program for students who are looking for software programming job opportunities, considering the industrial field employs talented young people regardless of their majors.
The intensive course was run split into two levels, with the basic class led by Jeong Jae-heon and the advanced class by Lim Byeong-chan.
In the basic-level hackerthon, Jeong Min-gyun in the Department of Physics and Seon Min-su in the Department of Computer Engineering were awarded the first and the second prizes, respectively.
Computer education majors Han Myeong-hoon and Kim I-hyeon also received the first and the second prizes in the advanced-level hackerthon. The winners will be given scholarships according to their prizes.
Han, the winner of the advanced-level hackerthon, said the program was useful because he could learn about exceptional occasions concerning the solutions to difficult algorithms.
Song Wang-cheol, director of the JNU-SCEI, expected the event would help the students improve their skills of solving problems using computational thinking.
