Build-Transfer-Lease Project launched for student dormitories

Jeju National University signed an agreement with the new operator of the Build-Transfer-Lease (BTL) project for the school’s new dormitory early on Thursday (July 13).

According to the university, the operator is Tamna Sarang Corp. (tentatively named) which was formed led by Kolong Global Corp.

Under the agreement, Tamna Sarang will fund the design, construction, and operation of the new dorm facilities.

The project will cost 42.85 billion won for the construction of 434 double rooms for general students and 16 rooms for differently abled students, with the gross area of 1,6200㎡.

The facilities will also include a student cafeteria with the housing capacity of 300 people and 12 other public rooms for laundry and parcel service.

When the project is completed in July, 2023, the new dormitory will provide rooms for up to 900 students.

Currently, the university runs four student dormitories. One of the capable of housing 836 students is directly operated by the school, while three others with the housing capacity of 624, 500, and 900 students are operated based on the BTL system.

The school plans to stop operating its facility for the safety of students during the construction of the new facilities.

A school official explained that after the new dormitory is constructed, the school-led one will be remodeled to provide single rooms to students, with expanded cultural facilities.
