‘BT-ICT 융합 실무 기술 교육프로그램’ 운영
Training program on BT-ICT convergence technology held

Jeju National University’s Department of Molecular Biotechnology held a specialized training program on the convergence of biotechnology and information and communication technology.

The department worked with the university’s Subtropical Horticulture Institute, Research Institute for Subtropical Agriculture and Animal Biology, and Intellectual Property Education Center to run the Specialized Technology Transfer through Education on July 1 and 2.

The program was organized to help students and researchers obtain basic knowledge on ICT through training, while learning about the creation, protection, and use of intellectual properties in the field of biotechnology.

The course taught the participants how to search for BT patents and write a report on preceding technologies. The course also addressed the image-based digital technologies, the physiological analysis using natural substances, and the development and analysis of BT crops.

During the course, the participants were also introduced to the use of biophyton, the application of BT-ICT convergence, and the basics of R programing for big data analysis.

Sixteen trainees completed the course, the organizers said.

To secure enough time for the participants’ training, the course was given in the laboratories of the department and the institutes. The organizers also invited specialists on BT-ICT convergence to provide quality classes to the trainees.

Prof. Kim In-jung, the planner of the program, said none of the participants were absent from the classes despite the scorching weather. The organizers will arrange the 2nd program for an intensive training course in the coming semester, he added.
