Winner of the capstone design fair for local communal contribution announced

Jeju National University’s team “Revival” has been awarded the Grand Prize in the 2021 Capstone Design Fair for Local Communal Contribution, the university’s LINC+ (industry-academic cooperation promotion team) announced on Thursday (July 22).

The event was held on Tuesday at Hallym University, as the second round of the 2021 Local Contribution Festival under the state-led LINC+ program.

Jeju National University was one of the 17 co-organizers, which includes nine other implementers of the LINC+ program (Kyungnam University, Keimyung University, Dongguk University, Dongseo University, Daejeon University, Chung-ang University, Chungnam National University, Honam University, and Hallym University), as well as 8 universities that signed the agreement on the hosting of the Capstone Design Fair for Local Communal Contribution (Sun Moon University, Mokpo National University, Gangneung-Wonju National University, Yonsei University Wonju, Catholic Kwandong University, Pukyong National University, Changwon National University, and Korea Maritime & Ocean University).

The event was held online to follow the national social distancing guidelines. Jeju National University’s Revival team gave a presentation on the manufacturing of non-wood fibers pulp using Sargassum horneri, a harmful gulfweed breed found on the coast of Jeju Island. The idea was also highly appraised for the possibility of protecting the forest.

Kang Chul-ung, head of JNU-LINC+, commented that the latest festival was an opportunity for the nation’s universities to show their sincerity and passion for the resolution of local issues.
