Jeju National University’s Subtropical & Tropical Organism Gene Bank held an educational program for female high school students on biotechnology, the university announced on Wednesday (July 21).

The educational program is named the Girls’ Biotech Camp and was jointly organized with the university’s WISET project team.

During the program, 30 high school students from local girls’ high schools received mentoring support from the university’s postgraduate students studying biotechnology. Particularly, the participants took intensive classes on biotechnology and participated in the RT-PCR.

The students responded to the survey after taking the basic-course classes, marking 4.8 out of 5 scores as the level of their satisfaction with the program.

The respondents especially pointed out that the research lab provided an opportunity to gain knowledge of biotechnological methods through experiments. The survey findings also show that the program encouraged female students to extend their interests to the STEM field.
