'JNU Alumni Inaugural General Meeting in Japan', the first overseas alumni
association consisting of alumni from JNU, was held in Ueno in Tokyo, Japan.
The first overseas alumni association of Jeju National University (JNU) in Japan, known as the "Jeju National University Alumni Association in Japan," was officially launched with an inaugural general meeting held on November 3 in Ueno, Tokyo, Japan. Recognizing the growing number of JNU alumni in Tokyo and Osaka, the JNU Alumni Association had been preparing for this formation since January 2024.
The inaugural event was attended by Song Young-min, the first president of the association (a 1992 graduate of JNU's Department of Oceanography), along with 10 other JNU alumni. In addition, Kim Eel-hwan, President of JNU, and Kim Nam-sik, Vice President of the JNU Alumni Association, joined the event to congratulate and support the establishment of the new chapter. They also exchanged ideas to promote the growth and development of JNU.
Song Young-min, President of the JNU Alumni Association in Japan, remarked, "We are very pleased to launch our first overseas alumni association in Japan. With the increasing number of JNU alumni pursuing opportunities abroad after graduation, this association is expected to grow further. I hope the alumni association and our alma mater will thrive by building strong networks among JNU graduates.“
JNU President Kim Eel-hwan said, "On behalf of all members of JNU, I sincerely congratulate the founding of the JNU Alumni Association in Japan. There is a saying that academic achievements cannot be erased. I encourage our alumni to work together to enhance the prestige of JNU." He added, "JNU greatly needs the support of our overseas alumni to advance our university, our hometown of Jeju, and Korea as a whole."
