Bio-health Center selected to receive national funds for equipment improvement project

Jeju National University’s Bio-health Material R&D Support Center (JNU Bio-health Center) has been selected to receive national funds for research equipment, the university announced on Thursday (July 29).

On the previous day, the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea finalized the recipient institutes of the national funds for the Basic Science Empowerment Project.

The project aims to rearrange the sporadically placed research devices to be concentrated by department and research areas for communal use. For the management of the equipment, a support center for core research projects will be established.

Specifically, the project will support for the establishment of the Core Research Support Center, the building of research equipment, and the invigoration of joint research projects.

Last year, JNU Bio-health Center was selected as the recipient of the funds worth 3.5 billion won for the establishment of the Core Research Support Center during the six-year project term.

Selected as the recipient of the funds of 430 million won for research equipment building, JNU Bio-health Center will purchase the High Content Screening & Analysis System by February next year.

The new device will be used for multiple purposes in the fields of detecting and developing local bio-health materials, building the database and analytical systems, and developing new food and medical substances.

In doing so, JNU Bio-health Center plans to complete the establishment of the Core Research Support Center by concentrating the research infrastructures specializing in the development of bio-health materials.

Lee Dong-sun, the director of the center, said the specialized device will contribute to the advancement of local industries.
