Jeju National University’s Intellectual Property (IP) Education Center announced the winners of the 2021 Jeju Indigenous Culture Trademark and Design Patent Contest on Wednesday (July 28).

 

According to the announcement, Seong Hye-bin (Ethics Education Major, JNU Teachers College) was awarded the Gold Prize (presented by JNU president) in the design patent category. The Gold Prize in the trademark patent category was presented to Kim Seon-gyeom, a Daejeong High School student.

 

The Silver Prize winners presented by the chairman of Jeju Chamber of Commerce and Industry include Jo Hyeon-a (Korean Language Education Major, JNU Teachers College) in the trademark patent category, Hyeon A-rin (Seogwipo Industrial Science High School) in the design patent category.

 

Hyeon Ye-eun (Western Painting Major, JNU College of Arts & Design) and Lee Ki-ho (Biomaterials Major, JNU College of Applied Life Sciences) were awarded the Silver Prize in the trademark and the design patent categories, respectively (presented by the director of Jeju TechnoPark).

 

The announcement also revealed the winners of eight Bronze Prize winners and 16 Encouragement Prize winners.

 

JNU IP Education Center organized the 2021 Jeju Indigenous Culture Trademark and Design Patent Contest, together with the Jeju provincial government, Jeju TechnoPark, Jeju Regional Intellectual Property Center, and Seogwipo Industrial Science High School.

 

The application was opened on April 19 and continued until May 26, with a total of 231 contenders accepted (146 for trademark patents, 85 for design patents).

 

To secure the fairness in the nominating process, the juries consisted only of external experts, who investigated existing technologies and assessed the written applications and the on-site presentations.

 

For 30 works that have been selected for excellency (14 for trademark patents, 16 for design patents) received consulting services given by a specialized license agency. Particularly, JNU IP Education Center funded for their patent applications.
