JNU selected to receive continued MOE financial support

Jeju National University has been selected to received continued financial support from the Ministry of Education, the university announced on Wednesday (Aug. 18).

The Ministry of Education and the Korean Educational Development Institute recently conducted a tentative assessment of the nation’s universities for their basic capabilities.

In the 2018 assessment, JNU was selected as a university entitled for autonomous improvement. The latest assessment results once again gave the school the eligibility for the MOE financial support for general matters, special purpose projects, national scholarship program, and student loans.

Specifically, the university will be subsidized for its innovative projects for three years, between 2022 and 2024.

The MOE recognized JNU’s competitive edge in 12 indicators of six categories, including its development plan, educational environment, accountability, course and curriculum, student support, and educational achievements.

Song Seok-eon, president of JNU, said the university envisions that with the opening of new departments in the field of advanced sciences, the school’s coming academic years will be more adaptive to the future-oriented industries. The school authorities will spare no effort in facilitating cooperation with other educational or research institutes, as well as the industry and local community, so that more students can realize their dreams, he added.

The tentative assessment will be confirmed by the end of August after the MOE finishes reviewing complaints and objections filed by universities with unsuccessful results.
