Cooperation for smart farm project agreed with Hallim Park

Jeju National University’s Department of Horticultural Science agreed on mutual cooperation for the Smart Farm Project with the university’s related research centers and a popular tourist attraction, the university announced on Saturday (Aug. 21).

The Smart Farm Project has been promoted as a nation’s university capacity building program in the 2021 academic year.

The Horticultural Science Department signed the latest agreement with JNU’s Smart Farm and Convergence Education Team, Center for Research & Education of Citrus & Flowers, and Hallim Park, a well-known horticultural attraction located on Jeju’s western region.

Under the agreement, the four parties decided to plan field training programs during summer and winter vacations, seminars and special lectures on smart farms, and incubation events for future agricultural specialists.

The signing ceremony was attended by the heads of the university’s research centers and related department, as well as the CEO of Hallim Park, who discussed cooperative measures and future strategies.

Cho Young-yeol, head of JNU’s Smart Farm and Convergence Education Team, expected that the agreement with the tourist designation with 50 years of history will bring a great synergy effect to Jeju Island’s smart farm industry.

Song Sang-seob, CEO of Hallim Park, said his company will actively cooperate with the university in fostering talented individuals and advancing smart farm facilities on Jeju Island.

In 2021, JNU will use the state fund for university capacity building programs to run special lectures and camps designed to meet the needs of different departments and fields.

Hallim Park consists of nine themes, including a subtropical botanic garden, natural lava tubes, and a bonsai garden. It is Jeju’s largest tourist attraction that attracts visitors to different flower festivals.
