837 degrees conferred at 2020 fall commencement Commencement ceremony held online with ‘commemorative photo zones’ established

Jeju National University conferred 572 baccalaureates, 217 masters, and 48 doctorate degrees at the 2020 Fall Semester Commencement, the university announced on Friday (Aug. 20).

The university had planned to hold the 65th ceremony offline on the same day, which was later cancelled to strictly follow the social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

For those who wish to have their commencement photographs, a “photo zone” and academic regalia have been readied by the school.

Song Seok-eon, president of Jeju National University, delivered his commencement speech on the schools website through video imaging.

He urged the new graduates and postgraduates to set up and pursue their lifetime goals with self-confidence. He also expected the students to be open-minded at all times, working for communication and harmony with other community members.

Closing his remarks, Song emphasized the importance of incessant self-improvement throughout life, which will allow for a faster adjustment to the changing social environment.
