Curriculum connecting high school and college courses launched

Jeju National University will run a high school-college connecting curriculum in partnership with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education, the provincial education office announced on Tuesday (Sept. 7).

The program was developed to utilize local infrastructure in preparation for the nation’s high school GPA system which is scheduled to be fully implemented in 2025.

The local education authority and Jeju National University will run the specialized courses for the 2021 fall semester, with the first course opened on Sept. 4 and the last one slated to end on Nov. 28.

The new curriculum has been designed targeting subjects that are rarely run by high schools because of the possibility of failing to meet the minimum enrollment quota. Prior to finalizing the courses, the education office conducted a survey on the students’ preferred subjects. The subjects have been selected to be Sports Performance Analysis, Information Science, Programming I, Programming II, and Big Data Analysis.

During the program, 33 students from nine high schools will visit Jeju National University every Saturday and take their selected courses for four hours. The classes will be led by specialized experts recommended by the university, with the assistance of incumbent high school teachers.

The program’s top priority is to expand the student choices by utilizing to the fullest the advanced human and material infrastructure of local universities.
