Research Institute for Basic Science held seminar with KITECH Jeju

Jeju National University’s Research Institute of Basic Science (JNU-RIBC) held the 4th Regular Seminar in Liaison with Local Research Institutes on Thursday (Sept. 16).
The latest seminar was organized with the Jeju headquarters of Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH Jeju).
JNU-RIBC hold a seminar regularly with Jeju-based research institutes to revitalize inter-academic exchanges and information sharing. The KITECH Jeju was invited as the fourth co-organizer of the seminar this year.
During the seminar, Park Jeong-hoon, a KITECH Jeju researcher, briefed the JNU-RIBC members on the measures for utilizing the surplus local produce on Jeju Island.
In return, JNU-RIBC’s Lim Hee-jeong introduced the KITEC Jeju to the RIBC’s latest research on the impact of different iodine chemical species on the catalytic activation of hydrogen removal.
KITECH Jeju has recently studied on the use of natural extracts from local farm produce to curb the formation of biofilm and the reduction of toxic Bacillus pyocyaneus. The researchers expect Jeju’s natural products to replace chemical substances such as chlorine in the sewage treatment facilities.
During the seminar, the JNU-RIBC proposed research collaboration on different subjects in the field of basic sciences so that the scientists from the two institutes can work together to use natural substances of Jeju Island to create value.
The fifth regular seminar is slated to be held on Nov. 25, with the Jeju Institute of Korean Medicine.
